Co-operations with coalition/US forces; Operation Viking hammer. Led to the only chemical weapons facility/site found in the whole war; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Viking_Hammer Battle of Debecka pass; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Debecka_Pass Those are the only operations during OIF-I-N that i know have a wikipedia page. There was also this operation to disarm suspected people in Kerkûk that ended up turning deadly (killing 18 ex-baathists and terrorists, wounding 2 Kurdish soldiers) back in 2006, but i can't remember the name. I can ask a relative of mine (was taking part in the operation). Also to note is Operation Iron reaper (IA-US) in Mosul had the 2nd Iraqi army division (mostly kurds from 2nd) play the central role in the operation. There have been tons of security operations in Kerkûk and other kurdish areas by our forces (often cooperating with Iraqi army, Iraqi Police or Coalition forces). Maybe there is a list online? |

Thank you for this fulcrum. I hope we can get more missions listed here where some might have detailed information like the one ww2b posted on veteran Peshmerga thread. Take a look at it and you will understand what i mean. It is not easy to find or gather such information about all, modern time missions, but mostly the old ones that veteran Peshmerga tels to their children, grand children etc. Dont you guys think that peshmerga in the old days must have had some kind of reporting on missions they did? KRG probably have a archive of it and i hope they use it to create great movies, series and spread some of the information ![]() |

I guess this was sort of a mission a man in PDKI did not see his children for 4 years he wanted to go see them who were living in a Kurdish village in Bakur. He and 3 other peshmerga went, they found out there was a camine ( people hiding waiting for them and they would pop out and shoot them). He said he had to go and his peshmerga friends said if he was going to be shehid they were too, so he ran in the middle of the camine while the other 3 peshmerga were trying to cover him all three peshmerga died in battle and the man was able to get passed the camine with not one bullet hitting him. He reached the village and saw the house of his family and out of knowhere a jash shot him in the back of the head and he was never able to see his children. |

Also there was a man also in PDKI he was in jail and out of knowever I think someone hit the jail with an RPG his cell opened he had a pistol he took out 10 postars and and took 3 jashes hostage. The PDKI general for that area came in and asked one of the jashes what he wanted. He said he wants to be a shehid and the general said here let me help you and he shot him in the back of the head. And he shot the other one too. Another general came and said you can't do this its bad for our reputation and they let the last jash go free. |

I have a lot of stories about my father's missions to share. But I will get to those later. I will post something I posted in Veteran Peshmerga earlier. My father is currently looking for his old Peshmerga photos. He has hundreds, but lost many when he came to Europe. Some of the photos are very interesting, they include: - My father when he was the principal/director of the Prison of Slemani in 1991, he has photos with the Iraqi pigs they captured (my father was also 'interrogator' if you know what I mean ![]() - Photos with burned down IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicles), captured soldiers, wounded /killed soldiers. - Photos where he was just a kid, like 16 or 17 years old. Actually I have some of those. - Photos with people like Jalil bqs (well known Peshmerga known for always carrying a LMG, he fired the LMG with one hand while operating his gun with the other, he is a shahid, but has send many Arab Ba'athi pigs to hell). - Photos with people like Mam Rostam, Jabar Mustafa (current minister of Peshmerga affairs) And a lot more :). |

Operasjoni cingni sher (Operation lion claw), Told by a relative; 870 Security forces involved in the start, supported by 22 Humvee vehicles and a large number of pick-ups; 05;30. 14.july 2006; Kurdish security forces (PUK) starts an operation in order to disarm people/tribes that could be seen as a threat to the security forces in the area. The operation starts successfully (and without much resistance), with more than 100 Kalashnikov and other rifles being taken by the security forces (the owners were paid a sum in order to not put up resistance). The people were allowed to keep their pistols. Northern portion of the city was cleared (all suspected people had given up their weapons) around 16:00, with 2 arrests. The arrested people had punched/pushed a soldier. No firefights had occurred. 16;15; Operation starts in South-West, with more resistance on being disarmed by the population. No gunfire was used against the security forces before ~17;30 (he did not have the exact minute). The fire was soon stopped by a Kurdish soldier hitting the hands (with an AKM) of the man firing against the Kurdish forces. The security forces took the opportunity to secure the building and get the man arrested by 17;55. The man survived, but his hand was rendered destroyed (in other words, the man survived but his hands could not be saved). 18;45 Meanwhile, another unit (Iraqi national police, mostly Kurds in that unit) was under fire by a group of organized armed gunmen (on some rooftops) in SW of Kerkûk. A part of the company my relative was part of was sent to support the INP-unit, and 4 Humvees were used as transport. When they arrived, they immediately meet heavy fire (with an RPG-7 being fired, but missed the vehicles and another round failed to explode). Snipers soon were taking positions in the nearby houses (the families were inside), while the Humvees were ordered to leave. The snipers took out the suspected RPG gunman, and the Humvees were ordered back to give heavy fire support to the soldiers. The plan was to send in soldiers to secure the house during night, in the cover of darkness. However, many gunmen were taken out by the snipers before the darkness settled (highly effects the morale of the terrorists). Suddenly (by 20;40) the fire ended, and after some minutes of silence, a unit was sent in to secure the house. No resistance were meet, and the remaining 4 terrorists (all under the age of 24) gave up and were arrested. 18 terrorists were killed in total, 2 SF wounded. All in all, over 250 rifles were taken, 13 machine guns and 6 RPGs (if he remembers correctly, he adds). That was a short summary of the key points in the operation. Unfortunately, another relative of mine (taking part in this operation, commanding 300 of the soldiers) was killed by an ambush in 2009. R.I.P ![]() |

Dja terror,Asayish and local police during the attack on Kerkûk 04/12/13. The Security forces waited until night before entering the building (a great tactic used by most special forces around the world). |

During the First Kurdish-Iraqi War (1961-1970), the Iraqi Army (with help of Syria) launched many offensives against Barzani's forces. All of these offensives failed miserably. One of the offensives is notorious. During the Battle of Mount Handrin, which was launched in May 1966 and ended the same month, one entire brigade of the Iraqi army was completely slaughtered by the Kurdish forces. Over 5,000 Iraqi soldiers were killed during one single battle. Following this shameful, humiliating defeat, the Soviet-Union pressured the defeated, annihilated Iraqi government to come to terms with Barzani. A 12 point peace plan was announced in June 1966, one month after the defeat. However, it was never implemented. The Iraqi's relaunched their campaigns, but this stalled in 1969. Iraq stopped receiving support from the Soviet-Union. Over 90,000 Iraqi soldiers were killed during this war. |
