Hello everyone,

the website of the german military has published an article about another delivery of weapons, ammunition, vehicles and materials to the KRG.

http://www.einsatz.bundeswehr.de/portal/a/einsatzbw/!ut/p/c4/LYvBCoMwEET_KGtKacGbVigFT17UXspqFlkaE0nXCtKPbwLOwMDMY-AJ0Q6_PKGwd2ihg37kfNjUsBl6EbsPyh4rvmUla4-JZCdo09mQGr0jSSnkhGNOAcUHtfggNpE1hEgUG-gzXZX6es4O6V9xa-91fdGn6lE2sMxz8QfwYJpR/

A rough translation would be about as follows:

Weaponsdelivery into the KRG

Hewlêr, 17.08.2016.

The support for the regional security forces in the KRG with weapons, vvehicles and ammunition continues. On the 16th of August, a transport-plane of the Type Antonov AN-124 brought around 70 tons of material from the inventory of the Bundeswehr to Hewlêr. Part of the delivery were, among other things, 100 ATGMs of the type MILAN

The plane had taken off in prenoon from the airport Leipzig / Halle towards Iraq. After a planned stopover in Baghdad for customs, the plane landed at the airport in Hewlêr in the KRG in late afternoon.

Part of this delivery were, among other things:

1.500 Assault Rifles of the type H&K G36
1.000.000 Bullets for type H&K G36 Assault Rifles
100 ATGMs of the type MILAN
3 Armored vehicles of the Type DINGO 1
diverse replacement parts and consumable goods

Posted Image
Through the end-user agreement, the kurdish side commits itself to not hand over any parts of the delivery to third parties. (Source: Bundeswehr/Simon Hofmann)

The contents of the delivery were, as usual, handed over to the representative sof the kurdish regional government with the end-user agreement. In it, they commit themselves, to not hand over delivered weapons or equipment to third parties.

In late September 2014, the first delivery of weapons and ammunition reached the KRG. Germany had also transported military items (field kitchens, radio communication systems, mine-probes, NV-gear, tents,...) as well as numerous vehicles (DINGO 1, Unimog, Wolf, fuel-trucks) to Hewlêr via Baghdad (for customs stopover). Since the deliveries began, over 30 such deliveries went to the KRG. Their volume is around 2000 tons.

KRG to Abadi: The Peshmerga will not withdraw

Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region – The Peshmerga will not withdraw from areas they have liberated from the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Nineveh Province, said a government representative on Wednesday, responding to earlier comments from Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

“The Peshmerga will continue their advances and will not retreat from the areas they have recently liberated from the Islamic State in Mosul,” especially on the Khazir and Gwer fronts, said Safeen Dizayee, spokesperson of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), reacting to Abadi’s declaration that the Peshmerga should stop their expansion and stay where they are.

Abadi made comments about the Peshmerga’s role in the Mosul operation on Tuesday. Speaking to a press conference in Baghdad the Iraqi prime minister said that, “The Peshmerga should stay where they are now, and they should not expand their presence even if they help the Iraqi Army.”

“No other force will enter the city of Mosul,” except for Iraqi government forces, Abadi stressed.

Abadi also explained that Baghdad “has understandings with the Kurdistan Region. During the Mosul liberation operations, the Peshmerga should not expand and they should stay where they are now even if they help the Iraqi army.”

Dizayee, however, insisted that “the Peshmerga will not stop their advances until all Kurdistan’s territories in the Nineveh region are liberated.”

He said that the “Peshmerga will not even withdraw from areas they are going to liberate in the future.”

Abadi’s comments come just days after the Peshmerga soundly defeated ISIS on the battlefield. Over Sunday and Monday, the Peshmerga captured a group of villages on the Khazir and Gwer fronts, killing 130 militants. On Tuesday, the Peshmerga killed another 60 militants in the outskirts of Shingal.

Germany sends new rifles, rockets and armored vehicles to Peshmerga

By Rudaw 12 hours ago

Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region—The German defense ministry says it has delivered a new batch of weapons and ammunition to the Peshmerga forces after receiving assurances from the Kurdish government that arms will not end up in the black market.

According to the Reuters news agency, “A defense ministry spokesman said Germany had delivered 70 tonnes of weapons, including 1,500 rifles, 100 shoulder-fired rockets and three armored vehicles, to the Kurdistan Regional Government in Hewlêr on Tuesday.”

The new arms supply comes after the Germany military was reassured by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that the weapons will stay in the hands of the Peshmerga forces in their fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).

Germany has been a main supplier of weapons to the Kurds since the start of the war against ISIS two years ago, providing, most importantly, the anti-tank Milan missiles that have proven the most effective against truck bombs on the frontlines.

The German government however was said to have halted its arms supply in January after reports that some of the weapons had been sold in the Kurdish market.

“An investigation by the Kurdistan government completed earlier this year found that about 30 weapons of over 28,000 delivered by Germany had been sold illegally or lost. Kurdish authorities arrested several people as a result.” Reuters reported.

“Germany has sent over 30 shipments of weapon totaling more than 2,000 tonnes to the Kurdistan regional government since 2014,” the ministry spokesman said, according to the report.

German military personnel are among coalition forces training the Kurdish Peshmerga at a base outside Hewlêr and most recently they built two new training centers near the capital.

Russia delivers million rounds of ammunition to Kurdistan Peshmerga

Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region received one million rounds of ammunition from Moscow in late July as part of preparation for the Mosul offensive, a Kurdish official confirmed on Monday.

The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) office in Moscow Aso Talabani stated that Russia had delivered another batch of military support to the Peshmerga in the fight against the Islamic State (IS).

“About two weeks ago, Russia sent another plane to Hewlêr,” Talabani told Russian Interfax news agency.

“It consisted of around a million rounds of ammunition for Kalashnikov assault rifles and machine guns designated for the preparation of the assault on Mosul,” he added.

Moreover, Russia’s adviser for the Russian Consulate General in Hewlêr Evgeny Arzhantsey confirmed the news to the same agency.

Arzhantsey said that the shipment was delivered to the KRG based on a prior agreement with the federal government of Iraq.

The adviser revealed that the shipment consisted of 940,000 rounds of ammunition.

The packages were delivered to Baghdad on July 31 and then transferred to Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region.

It is the second shipment from Moscow to Hewlêr. The first batch was sent in March 2016 containing five anti-aircrafts with 19 thousand rounds of ammunition.

According to Talabani, it would not be the last shipment of Russia’s military support to the Kurdish forces, but the date of the next batch remains unknown.

Recently, Peshmerga forces cleared 11 villages from IS in less than two days in the east of Mosul.

The successful military operation was supervised by the President of the Kurdistan Region The acting president Barzani and supported by the US-led coalition warplanes.

Peshmerga is labeled one of the most efficient ground forces in defeating the jihadists.

The Kurdish forces and officials complain to the international community for not supplying sufficient weapons while Peshmerga fights on behalf of the world.

Russia confident arms provided to Peshmerga won’t end up on black market

Hewlêr — The Russian Consulate in Hewlêr expressed confidence on Thursday (August 18) that weapons transferred from Russia to the Kurdistan Region, for use against the Islamic State (ISIS), would not end up in the wrong hands.

A senior staff member at the Russian Consulate, Evgeny Kazantsev, said strict measures have been taken by Kurdish leadership to prevent the sale of arms deliveries in the black market.

Kazantsev, cited by the Russian media network RT, said the consulate is not afraid weapons and ammunition provided to Kurdish forces will end up on the black market.

He claimed, according to RT, that German weapons and ammunition were detected in the black market but such cases do not currently exist.

Germany put a stop to its weapons’ deliveries in January, according to Reuters, after reports surfaced that some of the weapons sent to the Kurdistan Region ended up on the black market.

Germany has resumed supplying weapons to the Kurdistan Region following assurances by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) that the arms would not be sold in the black market.

Germany delivered 70 tonnes of weapons to the KRG on August 16, which included 1,500 rifles, 100 shoulder-fired rockets and three armored vehicles, a spokesman from Germany’s ministry of defense cited by Reuters said.

The KRG Ministry of Peshmerga announced on March 6 the ministry detained more than 10 members of Peshmerga forces over charges they were selling weapons provided by Germany.

The Deputy Minister of Peshmerga, Anwar Haji Osman, said a committee was established on January 29 on the order of The acting president Barzani to investigate German weapons and military equipment sold on the black market.

A report by German public broadcaster NDR on January 21 claimed journalists and investigators found several G3 assault rifles and a German military P1 pistol in Sulaimani and Hewlêr.

The report further stated that interviews with Peshmerga claimed the sale of weapons was due to the KRG’s inability to pay Peshmerga salaries. The weapons were listed at prices between $1,450 and $1,800.

Hello ALAN,

it's good to hear and read, that the weapons arrived safely. There should be at least one more delivery like this one before the resupply promised by Minister von der Leyen is completed. I'll keep my eyes open and I'm sure that the weapons, ammunition, vehicles and supplies delivered will be put to good use.

Hello everyone,

the next report about the training program has been published on the website of the german military.

http://www.einsatz.bundeswehr.de/portal/a/einsatzbw/!ut/p/c4/LYvBCsIwEET_KJuAVPTW2os39aLxIttmKYtpUuLWQvHjTaAzMDDzGHhCdsAvDygcA3p4gO352C2qWxy9iMMHZc0V3zKT99tEshLcy9mR6mMgKSkUhHMOCSUmNcUkvpA5pUwUO7DatI3Z7_Qm86tP9nC56qpqz80NpnGs_34vtuo!/

A rough translation would be about as follows:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
„Ready for battle“ – Peshmerga complete their training

Camp Menila, 19.08.2016.

In the training-camps Bnslawa and Menila, 1200 Peshmerga have assembled. They have successfully completed the "Modern Brigade Course II", that went over ten weeks, a few days ago with the three-days long final exercise. Individual training, leadership and tactics on company-level were the most important contents. The Peshmerga will return to the front, or go the front for the first time, against the socalled 'islamic state' shortly. The next course, again with about 1200 participants will begin in a few days as well.

Posted Image
Training with the ATGM „Milan“ (Source: Bundeswehr/Griem)

Since the beginning of the training mission in the KRG 2015, the infantristic training of the Peshmerga was in the foreground. In the first year the focus of the basic courses was conveying infantristic basic knowledge. Starting with handling off firearms, doing patrols, to offense and defense. The basis for upcoming and higher-leveled training efforts had to be created in the first place.

For that there are three training camps: Bnslawa, Artrush and Menila. As the training is done multinationally - aside from Germany six other nations participate in the training mission - the KTCC ("Kurdistan Training Coordination Center") coordinates the traning-efforts. The largest troop-contributors, Italy and Germany, alternate the command-responsibilities for the KTCC every half-a-year.

1200 Peshmerga in the specialist- and leadership-training

Posted Image
A Peshmerga explains the current situation in the operations command center (Source: Bundeswehr/Griem)

2016 brought the change: The basic course became the MBC, the "Modern Brigade Course". The pure conveying of basic skills changed to training specialists - and training leadership up to battalion-level. The ten-weeks long MBCs contain training modules on the entire spectrum of a kurdish infantry brigade in the KRG.

Militarily offensive actions are more and more in the foreground in the KRG and the fight against the so-called 'islamic state'. With that, the focus on offensive- and counterattack-operations, supported by mortars, snipers and anti-tank-weapons, was quickly determined. But the best material and personnel are of limited use, as long as military leadership is lacking. Leadership-training, from platoon-commander up to the battalion-commander with the staff-elements, thus became an important part of the past ten weeks.

Structured command-giving, tactically sensible proceeding and actions and the measured handling of resources have to be learned by the Peshmerga, sometimes from scratch.

Numerous Challanges

Posted Image
Colonel Wasgindt with a netherlandish officier at the driver-training – here the instructors had to learn as well initially (Source: Bundeswehr/Berardi)

But not just they needed to learn. In the run-up, primarily the instructors had to become accustomed with new weapons, equipment and vehicles and their handling. The background is a conglomeration of military equipmend used by the Peshmerga, that come from old inventories and from international support-deliveries. And so the german soldiers train the kurds in the handling of american weapons and vehicles. For that the instructors, who are naturally experts with weapons and vehicles in general, had to be trained by US soldiers.

Additionally to that came challanges, that the timeframe (May to July) brought with it: High temperatues and the holy month of Ramadan, in which faithful muslims are not allowed to eat meals during the day. Despite there being exceptions for the military training, a number of Peshmerga obeyed the islamic rules strictly. That, understandably, lead to drop-offs in performance and to more time-consuming training-parts.

Exam-Exercise „Final Exercise“

Posted Image
Urban- and housecombat in the three-day long final exercise (Source: Bundeswehr/Berardi)

The ten weeks-long MBC-training contained, aside from the already covered parts, medical- and communications-training and the handling of IEDs.

To evaluate the success of the training in a combination of all components under combat conditions, a three days long exam-exercise "Final Exercise" was carried out. The assembly of a battalion command post as operations center, attack on and defense of mission-critical locations, like a bridge for example, constand medical- and IED-based interludes were just a few scenarios that had to be resolved. In the evaluation it showed, that the trained topics had been brought together by the Peshmerga on their own and simple situations had been solved by them on their own.

Handing over of certificates

Posted Image
Handing over of the certificates in the training-camp Menila (Source: Bundeswehr/Gädt)

The planned for training-goals have been generally reached. A total of 1200 Peshmerga, the leadership of the contingent of the seven participating nations, military and political representatives of Kurdistan in the KRG and regional media have come to the ceremonial handing over of certificates in the camps Menila and Bnslawa.

Because of the simultaneous ceremonies and the distance between Hewlêr and the camps (Menila is about a two hours drive away by car) the leadership of the KTCC has split in two parts with one high-ranked representatives and a number of instructors each.

Posted Image
During the ceremony, Colonel Oberst Wasgindt hands the exam-certificate to a Peshmerga (Source: Bundeswehr/Gädt)

Colonel Frank Wasgindt, commander of the german mission-contingent in the KRG and the deputy commander of the KTCC, accompanied the ceremoney in camp Menila. In his speech he stressed the importance of training for the fight against the so-called 'islamic state' and praises the success completion of the course. Afterwards, he and the Peshmerga-General Ribat, hand the certificates to selected soldiers in front of the assembled troops.

A certificate, that has a high importance to the kurdish fighters. In Germany it is standard, but not in this region. Many of them receive a certificate as proof of their achievements for the first time. The pride can be seen on the faces.

Posted Image
Visible pride in the achievement (Source: Bundeswehr/Gädt)

Tomorrow a part of them will already be back at the front or be at the front for the first time, and fight. Now with more coordination and certainty of action.

In these days, the next course, the „MBC 03“. For that 1200 new Peshmerga have travelled to the training-camps. Full attendance, receipt of material and first introductions for the coming weeks run at full speed already, so that new certificates can be handed over in mid-October.

Hello ALAN,

it is very good to see, that the support, material and training, are put to good use and prove helpful in the defense of the KRG against the IS-terrorists.
Hopefully the training's contents can be integrated into usual Peshmerga-training over time, so newly trained Peshmerga can benefit as well and the training-mission has a lasting effect.

Iraqis reiterate Peshmerga must withdraw from liberated areas

August 14, 2016. REUTERS/Azad Lashkari

SULAIMANI – Iraq’s government is once again insisting that Kurdish forces withdraw from areas regained from Islamic State (ISIS) forces as the push towards Mosul intensifies.

Saad Hadisi, spokesman for the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office, said Friday (August 19) that officials in Baghdad reject claims by a number of Kurdish political and military officials that areas should go under Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) administration.

Senior KRG and Peshmerga officials have made repeated statements that Kurdish forces will not withdraw from territory regained from ISIS militants in KRG.

Speaking to Middle East Eye, Peshmerga General Hama Rashid Rostam and senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) member Arif Tayfur said the KRG will not return liberated areas to Iraqi government.

Iraq’s Ministry of Defense said on July 22 that a precondition of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Kurdistan Region and the U.S. carried a stipulation that Kurdish forces would withdraw from any areas currently under ISIS control after the successful defeat of the militants.

Following the Iraqi ministry’s release, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs issued a statement saying Kurdish forces would not withdraw from areas taken from ISIS.

Hello everyone,

another article is online on the website of the german military, detailing another delivery flight to Hewlêr.

http://www.einsatz.bundeswehr.de/portal/a/einsatzbw/!ut/p/c4/LYvNCoMwEITfKJvQX3qL5FCvvbT2UlazyNKYSLpWkD58IzgDAzMfA08ojvjlHoVTxAAPaDq-tLNqZ08v4vhBWUrFt0wUwjaRLAT39exJdSmSrCkUhUv2GSVlNaYsYSVTzoUo9tBo4ypz2utN5mfdwV53R312dXWDcRjsHw4Jl78!/

A rough translation would be about as follows:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next delivery: Ammunition for the Peshmerga

Hewlêr, 24.08.2016.

The support for the security forces of the government of the region Kurdistan is being continued. After last week a transport plane of the type Antonov AN-124 already brought material from the inventory of the german army to Hewlêr, replacement parts for already delivered vehicles, ammunition and equipment arrived on the 23rd of August.

Posted Image
Over two millionen bullets were part of the delivery (Source: Bundeswehr/Simon Hofmann)

The plane, which is used in the SALIS-program, had departed from the airport Leipzip/Halle at noon. After a planned stop-over in Bagdad, it landed at the airport Hewlêr in the KRG at the evening.

Compontents of the delivery to the kurdish regional government were:

Ammunition

• 1.080.000 rounds for G36 Assault Rifles (5,56 x 45 AA 61 hard core)

• 864.000 rounds for G36 Assault Rifles (5,56 x 45 AA 59 soft core)

• 324.000 Schuss G36 Assault Rifles (5,56 x 45 AA 63 illumination rounds)

• 65.000 Schuss P1 Pistols (9x19 AD 60 soft core)

NBC-Material

• 3000 Field Ponchos

diverse replacement parts for the vehicle-type „Wolf“

Additionally 1000 Field Ponchos were delivered to the iraqi government.
Posted Image))
With the Ammunition the Peshmerga are being supported in their fight against the so-called 'islamic state' (Source: Bundeswehr/Simon Hofmann)

The delivery was handed over with an end-user agreement. In it the recipients commit to not handing over the delivered weapons and equipment to third parties and only use it for the intended purpose.

With this transport a total of 37 such deliveries have gone to the KRG.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suspect that the part handed to the iraqi government (as NBC-field ponchos, they're unlikely to be any problem to the KRG in the future) are to quell complaints from their side and keep the transport route free from interference.

I hope the Peshmerga have lots of MANPADS and ATGMS's to destroy the Iraqi military's aircraft and tanks.

Because the US air force (nor any other western air force) will not be there for whats coming next.

This is Obama's reward for fighting America's enemy ISIS.

Obama's treachery though has just begun.

God help the Kurds.
