Not to be disrespectful but why do many of them and regular male Peshmerga as well seem to be overweight? An overweight person will not be able to perform some infantry tasks efficiently, I can't understand why there aren't disciplinary measures in place to eliminate obesity among Peshmerga members.
The average kurds diet is all carbs, the whole plate is rice with a couple peices of chicken...

I found that we Kurds form insulin spikes, therefore whenever we eat carbs we get fat. They should change to a high fat diet

Even still the standard still looks high in Kurdistan compared to Australian Defence Force where they admit themselves that they just scrape the barrel when it comes to fitness levels.
In Australia they only have to do 20push ups and 30sit up and do a 2.6km (6 laps) run under 13mins once a year to get signed off... That's their only fitness requirement Lol

Peshmerga Begin Training on New Weapons Sent by France, US

28.08.2014
Diyar Aziz

The South Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Ministry has announced that Peshmerga forces have begun training using the newly-received weapons gifted to the region by France and the United States.

Spokesman for the Peshmerga Ministry Halgord Hikmat stated that “the US, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Finland and Italy, along with a few other countries, are ready to send weapons to the South Kurdistan.”

Hikmat explained the two types of artillery Kurdistan has received: “First, we get quick military in the form of small guns and ammunition in order to destroy the threat of the Islamic State (IS) militants in hand-to-hand combat.”

“We then receive more modern, developed weaponry in order to strengthen the military ability of the region,” said Hikmat.

“So far Kurdistan has only received weapons from France and the US,” Hikmat explained. “The weapons are varied, including heavy, light and developed weapons. We expect to receive more military support from other countries in the near future.”

Hikmat shared that a special committee has been formed that will supervise and distribute the newly-acquired weaponry to the Peshmerga forces.

After the IS insurgents ahifted their attack towards the South Kurdistan from Mosul, the KRG called on the international community to send support for Peshmerga forces in fighting with IS militants. Many countries have readily accepted to help the South Kurdistan.

IS Burns Ain Zala Oil Field to Impede Peshmerga Advance

As Peshmerga forces advanced on Islamic State militants towards Zummar, the IS attempted to thwart their advance by setting the oil fields of Ain Zala alight.

The blaze at the oil fields located within the Ninevah province came after Peshmerga had strategically captured a mountain near Zummar on Thursday, quickly approaching Islamic State strongholds.

On Thursday morning, a Peshmerga commanders from Zummar reported to BasNews that IS insurgents burnt the large oil field in order to hinder Peshmerga forces’ advance through the area.

The commander also expressed his concern over the consequences of the fires. As the fires were seen blazing from kilometers away, he worried about the financial as well as the environmental damages the destruction would bring to the area.

He mentioned that this action of IS insurgents will trigger the anger of residents in Mosul, who will be concerned that IS militants are wasting their property and natural resources.

Ain Zala Oil Field is located in Nineveh province close to Mosul city. The deposits of oil in this field are estimated to be about one billion oil barrels.

Denmark sends soldiers, military equipment to South Kurdistan

Posted Image

COPENHAGEN,— A Danish C-130J Hercules transport plane is heading to South Kurdistan alongside Danish support troops. Seven years after bowing out of the U.S.-led occupation, the Danes are joining a new and rapidly expanding military coalition battling the Islamic State militant group.

The four-engine cargo aircraft likely will set up in Erbil, the Kurdish capital of Iraqi’s autonomous South Kurdistan. Denmark’s contingent in Iraq will total around 55 people, including cargo specialists and people whose job it is to coordinate operations with local authorities.

The deployment “[supports] the international efforts against ISIS and assist Iraqi authorities in protecting the civilian population against the violent attacks and atrocities,” according to Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

ISIS is one of many acronyms foreign governments use to describe Islamic State, which captured much of northwestern Iraq starting this summer.

“Denmark’s contribution to the ongoing military operation in Iraq will of course not eliminate ISIS completely, but aims at helping the Iraqis in engaging and countering ISIS’s current offensive,” Danish foreign minister Martin Lidegaard explained.

Islamic State’s Sunni extremists are fighting government forces in both Iraq and Syria. The group claims it has established a new Islamic caliphate in the region, but it lacks capacity to govern and enjoys practically zero legitimate ties to other countries. Copenhagen says it made the decision to intervene after Washington and Baghdad both asked for help. The Pentagon has been bombing the Islamists and dropping humanitarian aid since early August.
