Turkey is part of Nato and Nato is helping us atm. So Turks can't open their mouth.

But you can still feel how upset they are. They know they are clear losers atm. On the one side Natos help and on the other side Turkeys support for the terrorists have made Kurds as united as ever.

All turkey wants is our oil and after it's all used and dug up they will still say stay part of Iraq, but now EU wants us freed from Iraq, US has woken up and will agree to our confederation, which basically is KRG plus newly freed areas, own oil sale and own arm deals, what more can we ask for? We can stay like this till 2016 then the referendum, confederation or full independence, I think been landlocked is a real issue here thus confederation is essential till we establish our own airforce...

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/13/us-ground-troops-direct-role-evacuate-yazidis-iraq

A team of US marines and special forces landed on Mount Sinjar in Iraq on Wednesday to assess options for a potential rescue of of 30,000 Yazidi civilians threatened by Islamic extremists and worn down by lack of food.

The forces flew in on V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft that can land vertically. They joined a small number of American special forces who, the Guardian has been told, had been on the mountain for some days. That team had been assessing the military and humanitarian situation and guiding US air strikes against Islamic State (Isis) fighters encircling the mountain.

A handful of British SAS soldiers were also in the area to “gather intelligence”, a British official said. The developments were the first confirmation that international forces were on Mount Sinjar.

Fleeing Yazidis have reported seeing small teams of American soldiers high on the northern flank. “We weren’t allowed to go near them,” said a man from Sinjar who was airlifted from the former base. “They were being guarded by the Kurds.”

The US ran a military and intelligence base on a now disused-airfield at the top of Mount Sinjar for much of the Iraq war and the terrain of the rugged 45 mile ridgeline is well known to special operations units. The airfield could be used as one end of an air bridge to fly refugees to safety, if it was impossible to open a land route.

Hewlêr airport consists of two parts, the older (now military part) and the newer civilian part.
We also have two air strips up north in the mountains, besides Slemani, Kirkuk air base and Duhok (currently under construction)

Are you sure Tuz Khurmatu airport is under Peshmerga control? It is very close (less than 1km) from Hulaywah, one of the big ISIS bases in the area.

I hope it is still under Pesh control. Do they still call the unit there the "16th Brigade" from when it was in the Iraqi Army, or is it called something different now?
