Erbil Botanical Garden

Project name: Hewlêr Botanical Garden

The project start date: the end of 2009
The company that designed the project: the Yonatem Yapi Turkey Company in collaboration with an Italian company
The cost of the project design: 1,000,000 Dinars

The area of the Hewlêr Botanical Garden project is 200 Acres which is (500.000 m2) as it is located on Erbil road - Koya - Kasnazan against the Martyrs Mausoleum.

Geography of the area is suitable for the project:
According to the geographic location, climate, weather and after doing all the necessary researches on the soil in terms of geography and geology in the region, this project was examined by the Professor (Bahram Khidr Mawlud) with the experts from both inside and outside the province and in collaboration with the founders of the project.
In 2009, the meetings started formally on the orders of the governor of Erbil and it has been formed a committee of engineers and university professors to lay the base stone for the project and it has been formed a committee of from each of Dr. Bahram Khidr Mawlud – Dara Yaaqubi – Dr. Shirzad Omer – Kardo Nouraldin – Jarjees Akram – Shireen Shekhallah – Karzan Qadir.
The committee did its works willing until 2011, and the project became under construction and they put the area of the project and the logo of the project, in 2012 they built up the wall around the project and a tank for water in the area of (800 m3).
In 03/12/2013 the project master plan has been discussed by the engineers of the project and the overlooking committee on the project design.
The achievement of the Botanical Garden project was in collaboration with the Governor of Erbil and the deputy governor of Erbil and this project is complete in terms of scientific, academic, educational, and it will become a special place for overages and for tourists and it will has an impact on the weather of Erbil city.
With the completion of this project, it helps to keep all kudistan plants and herbs in the danger of disappearing, and also will put the scientific names and definitions for all flowers, roses and herbs that grow in Kurdistan which is used mostly in the pharmaceutical industry.
This project consists of 14_ 16 different garden of the world such as Japanese, American and English… Etc.
The project of Botanical Garden is one of the rare and basic projects not only in Kurdistan but also in the Middle East, and the financial cost of this project has been secured on the budget of the Erbil governorate.

Why not create Kurdish gardens, why American Japanese or British??? I don't like the area either, this is already one of the greenest areas, even during summer there are green trees, and what will they do with the small river?

Guys, I have been thinking, do you think Kurdistan needs any park, I mean whole Kurdistan nature is a gigantic park! Water "parks" would be cool, but it won't be called park then right?
I have to disagree. When you live in the city, you don't see the nature outside of the city. Parks are places where people chill out and hang out, not just nice to look at.

Parks are essential for any city for psychological factors also. They mitigate crime and violence and have calming effect on people.

If you want more livable cities in Kurdistan, we need more parks for sure. It would distinguish our cities from the desert south. haha
