Barzani demands Baghdad to recognize Halabja-genocide

Saturday, 16 March 2013 15:03

Shafaq News / The President of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Nachirvan Barzani demanded the federal government to implement the Iraqi tribunal's decision on recognizing the bombing of the former regime on Halabja city as one of the genocide crimes.

"Baghdad did not comply with the decision of the Supreme Court and did not implement its clauses which require to compensate the families of the martyrs and victims and this is the minimum level of their rights," Barzani said while attending the ceremonies of commemorating the bombing of Halabja with chemical weapons, attended by "Shafaq News".

"This is considered as a delay to the court's decision."

The Iraqi Supreme Criminal issued a decision that considered what the former regime's had done of bombing Halabja with chemical weapons as a crime of genocide, but the federal government did not apply the decision so far.

The previous regime had attacked Halabja town that coincides today in 1988 with chemical weapons that killed more than five thousand people while more than 20 thousand were injured and a lot of them still suffer from physical and psychological effects.

Today remarks the 25th year of Helebce Genocide. The day the lungs of our children were filled with poison, the day we saw our brothers and sisters on the street... our Shehîdî Kurdistan.

I did not want to post any pictures of the victims, because it is too sad.

There was huge protests in Wan too. The upper picture is from there. The others are from the brave people of Qamishlo.

In Amed there was a huge torch demonstration for the Halabja victims organized by the newly formed Halabja Platform

Statement by NSC Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden on the 25th Anniversary of the Halabja Massacre

Posted Image

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the horrific massacre by Saddam Hussein’s regime of over 5,000 innocent civilians in a chemical weapons attack on the city of Halabja, in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.

At least 10,000 people were blinded and maimed. This terrible crime was but one of many in Hussein’s Anfal Campaign, in which tens of thousands of innocent Kurds were slaughtered.

On this solemn occasion, we honor the memories of the husbands, wives, sons, and daughters who perished at Halabja and throughout the Anfal, as we continue our efforts to prevent future atrocities, and help ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are held accountable.

new video of the attack, KAK simko where is the Kurdish guy from the one that speaks to the Halabjayies?

I couldn't see the whole video because my computer crashes when I watch videos frpm social medias aswell as forums for a strange reason. Anyway I got to the sixth minute and if you mean the jash with the beard I would guess Bijar. Sadly we have had many jashes coming from Bijar.
Prominent politicians and army officers in Iranian army have come from Bijar. Amir Nezam Garrusi (1820–1900) was born in Bijar to a Kabudvand family. As the colonel of Garrus regiment, he accompanied Muhammad Ali Shah's unsuccessful Harat campaign. As a diplomat in Paris, he had dinners with Napoleon and afterwards acted as an Iranian diplomat in Istanbul in Otoman empire. General Garrusi later joined the forces for the 1880 suppression of Kurdish uprising by the Naqshibandi Shaikh Obeidulah. He also played a negative part in murdering Cewer Agha, the predecessor of Simko, the Kurdish leader.
Dr Ramezanzadeh, the spokesman of Khatami government has family connections to Bijar.
There is also a large iranian army base in Bijar.
