Sait Kırmızıtoprak - Dr. Sivan - was the first communist revolutionary who organized Kurds in Bakur. He was a Zaza Kurd from Dersim. He was the leader of the KAWA organisation. Sivan was known for being a far leftist, but also very patriotic and wanted to unite all parts of Kurdistan. He was the first person person in Bakur who brought the Kurdish culture, language and patriotism to life. This picture was taken before the late 60's. He was killed by Turkey with the cooperation of the party PDK/Bakur. |

Faik Bucak - the first leader of the KDPT (Kurdistan Democratic Party of Turkey - the same model as Mustafa's PDK in Bashur) and Elci the second leader of the KDPT. Bucak was the founder of the KDPT in 1965, he was shot and killed by the Turkish police in 1966. Then Elci took his place. He ran the party for 2 years, until he was arrested. In jail, he meet Dr. Sivan, after Sivan left jail, he went to fight with the KDP, but after the ceasefire in 1970 by KDP, he formed his own party alike to the KDPT but with leftist agendas. This made Elci and Sivan rivals. In 1972, when Elci crossed into Bashur, Sivan captured and killed him, then in return, Mulla Mustafa killed Sivan. This brought an end to Elci's KDPT and Sivan's KDPT in Turkey. First picture: Faik Bucak. Second picture: Elci (left) and Dr. Sivan (right). By the way, this is what I could gather of info and what I found from max_b's posts. It's very limited info, so if people know some more about this or anything is wrong, please say so.

From heval Tevger's post on RBK. Engin Sincer also known as Erdal. He was born in Meresh, left with his parents to Germany after Meresh massacre. He later joined PKK. He' said to be one of the most exemplary members of PKK ever. Always humble, always helping and always doing the best he could do for his area. He was the regional leader of the PKK forces in Botan and Botan became the most important place for PKK in the years during the total war. He was later elected as a member of the PKK committee, but despite that fact, he was always ready to go into open battle and take up the rifle and fight on the front line. He was never too ''good'' to do what he had to. He died in open combat with Turkish forces. Sehid namirin! |

Macid Kawiyan known by his nickname as Simko Serhildan was the second-in-command of the East Kurdistan Forces (HRK), leading the guerrilla forces amid the offensives launched by Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on Qendil Mountains in summer 2011. Macid Kawiyan was born in Bane city of East Kurdistan. Similar to many Kurdish youth he became connected to Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in 1999 following the international conspiracy against the Kurds which led to the abduction of Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan. After four years of clandestine work in Bane he leaves his home town along with his friends to join the guerrilla forces of the PKK. Completing his ideological, political and military trainings, Simko Serhildan sets out to carry out his historical missions in Botan, Dersim and other parts of North Kurdistan fighting the colonial army of Turkey. Displaying his outstanding ability in guerrilla struggle he became a great commander and led the first guerrilla units to the Black Sea. Consequently he came back to Qendil Mountains where he joined the guerrillas of Kurdistan’s Free Life Party (PJAK), struggling against the colonial rule of Islamic Republic of Iran. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a large scale offensive on the positions of Kurdish guerrillas in Qendil Mountains last summer in an attempt to drive PJAK guerrillas out of Qendil and dominate the entire region. The IRGC military operations were met with historic resistance of Kurdish guerrillas directed by commander Simko. Commander Simko, who had the experiences of struggling against one of the most powerful armies and a NATO member, had a substantial role in Qendil resistance which led to defeat of IRGC and its consequent retreat from the battle field. In the battle of 2011 which come to be known as the Epic of Qendil hundreds of Revolution Guards were killed and many others wounded. Nineteen Kurdish guerrillas also lost their lives one of whom was the commander Simko. Simko Serhildan was one of the great commanders of Kurdish resistance against colonialism that the history of exploited people shall always remember, honour and venerate. As long as heroes such as him appear in the history, colonialism and exploitation are destined to fail. Sehid namirin!

From heval Tevger's post on RBK. Mazlum Dogan. Born in Xarpet/Elaziz. Joined PKK in late 1970's. Around the same time he was arrested. He was in jail from 1979 to 1982 where he and other prisoners were subjected to the worst forms of torture. At court he was standing face to face with judges who said that Kurd, Kurdish and Kurdistan was non-existent, but yet he managed to give the court an insight into Kurdish history. There is a story about Mazlum Dogan; Mazlum Dogan was being interrogated and tortured at the same time. The officer who was torturing and interrogating Mazlum Dogan stopped for a while. Realizing that he could not get any information out of Mazlum Dogan, he says; Officer: Don't you know that the big fish always will eat the small fish? Mazlum Dogan: Don't you know that the little fish can get stuck in the big fish's throat? Sehid namirin! |

From heval Tevger's post from RBK. Said Nursi. The last Islamic reformator of Turkey. Today, fascist Turks like Gulen are using his name for political gains. Another example is the fascist Nurcu Cemaati. |

Sheikh Mahmud Barzanji Sheikh Mahmud Barzanji or Sheikh Mahmud Hafid was born 1881 and died October 9, 1956. He was the leader of several Kurdish uprisings against the British Mandate of i-rack. He was sheikh of a Qadiriyah Sufi family from the city of Sulaimani, which is now in south Kurdistan. Sheikh was a true and loyal Kurd. He is still remembered today with displays of him around south Kurdistan and especially Sulaimaniah. He was a brave leader against the British Mandate in i-rack and fought for the independence and respect of Kurdistan. He was the first leader to emerge in the 20th century in Kurdistan and was the pioneer to many future Kurd leaders. He is a hero to the Kurd people to this day. Sheikh Mahmud led the first Kurdish revolt in British controlled Southern Kurdistan in May 1919. Shortly before being appointed governor of Sulaimani , he ordered the arrest of all British political and military officials in the region. As the British became aware of the sheikh's growing political and military power, they were forced to respond militarily. Two British brigades were deployed to defeat Sheikh Mahmoud's fighters at Darbandi Bazyan near Sulaimani in June 1919. Sheikh Mahmoud was eventually arrested and exiled to India in 1921. Mahmoud's fighters continued to oppose British rule after his arrest. The success of the Kurdish fighters' anti-British revolts forced the British to recognize Kurdish autonomy in 1923. Returning to the region in 1922, Sheikh Mahmoud continued to promote raids against British forces, and declared himself as the King of Kurdistan. On September 14, 1922, the British recognized Sheikh Mahmud Barzanji as the first King of Kurdistan under the British mandate. The Kingdom of Kurdistan lasted from 1922 to 1924. After the British government signed i-rack over to King Faisal I and a new Arab-led government, Sheikh Mahmoud retreated into the mountains, and later signed a peace accord with the i-racki government and settled in the new i-rack in 1932. Sheikh sued for peace and was exiled in southern i-rack in May 1932 and was able to return to his family village in 1941 where he remained the rest of his years. He ultimately died in 1956 with his family. |
