The Wiesel would probably compete with this for the smallest:

Hello everyone,

according to this photo-report from the german news-station n-tv, the Puma has been officially introduced into service in the german military and will slowly phase out the Marder.

http://www.n-tv.de/mediathek/bilderserien/Bundeswehr-nimmt-Puma-in-Dienst-article15363606.html

The planned purchase of 350 Pumas (40-60 per year until the end of the decade) is, likely correctly, criticized as too low. The Puma, which is four years late and costs twice as much as initially planned, likewise still has issues with the brakes, the seconary armament (MG 4) is being criticized for its small caliber and low ammunition storage.
It will also be a first test of an APC with inaccessible turret (sensor-feeds are supposed to give the crew more than adequate impressions of their surroundings).
The reactive add-on armor should make the Puma relatively invulnerable to weapons like the RPG-7 (it was originally intended as a counter to the danger such weapons (commonly encoutered in Afghanistan) could pose to a Marder) and it should posses an electronic defense system aimed at misleading the guidance of incoming guided missles.
It is air-liftable via A400M (once in service), but would need separate planes for a single Puma itself and its add-on armor.

Flug Werk Fw 190 A8/N.

This is not a Focke Wulf aircraft but a recently manufactured copy. Flug Werk says its Fw 190A airframe is 98% true to the original, with the exception of a Russian Shvetsov ASh-82 twin-row radial and minor modifications to accommodate various up to date systems that enable the new-build 190s to operate safely. You too can own one for $750 thousand US.

Hello everyone,

according to german media reports (http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/wegen-praezisionsproblemen-bundeswehr-erhaelt-ersatz-fuer-g-provisorisch-1.2623708), the german military has ordered a number of additional assault rifles nd machine guns as an interim solution for soldiers serving abroad.
The 600 G27P assault rifles are based on the H&K 417 rifle (a version specifically for the german military), the 600 MG4 machine guns are thus only intended for use on abroad missions. It can, however, signal which way the military leadership is leaning towards at the moment, namely replacing the G36 over a longer span of time for G27P rifles and MG4 and MG5 machine guns.
Maybe the KRG can profit from this exchange by getting more G36 assault rifles (either as donations or (relatively) cheap purchases).

Hello Kurdo82,

thanks für the compliment!
No, my eyesight would not have allowed serving in the military, so I am 'merely' a concerned citizen working with the information I can obtain.
And well yes, the german military procurement office is a huge waste of money that makes horrible decisions. If their mismanagement leads to the KRG receiving G36-rifles for an acceptable price or for free, then at least the inefficiency has had a positive side-effect.
Hard to believe that a sizable portion of the german military's entire manpower is bound up in that beaurocratic nightmare.

Hello everyone,

according to articles in the german press (like http://www.n-tv.de/politik/pressestimmen/Mangelnde-Treffsicherheit-elegant-beerdigt-article15890206.html), the Ministry of Defense has decided to fully replace the G36 and a successor is sought Europe-wide.
The process will certainly take a while and even after it is completed, it take another while to have sufficient quanitities of the successor produced and delivered, but then there could be a lot of G36 rifles on the market or available for equipment donations.

Hello kurdo82,

the caliber is a question of opinion and desired qualities, I suppose. The interim-purchased G27P apparently have 7,62*51mm as caliber. The G28, which also uses that caliber is apparently long ranged and precise enough (with a huge scope) to serve a sniper-rifle.
As for the replacement, that is a political decision only partially based on military or engineering considerations, one that might bring a lot of money into the coffers of HK and could lead to a greater availability of G36 rifles.
We'll see what comes of it.

With best regards,

Chatulio
