ERBIL-Hewlêr, South Kurdistan 'KRG',— Officials from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) force a group of Kurdish Peshmerga forces to vote for KDP candidates in the village of Kani Domalan, which is outside Hewlêr [Erbil], capital of the South Kurdistan. The independent Kurdish weekly Awene newspaper reports that they have gained information from some Peshmerga, who were forced, by some KDP officials, to attend a meeting and swear that they will vote for KDP candidates in the coming Iraqi Parliamentary and South Kurdistan Provincial Elections scheduled for April 30. The source adds that two candidates of the KDP were brought to the meeting and introduced to the Peshmerga. “One of the candidates was a woman who wore military clothes and the other was a man” the source confirms. Since the beginning of the election campaign, the KDP and the PUK have been publically violating the election rules. The Ministry of Peshmerga called on the officials to halt party meetings within thewww.Ekurd.net governmental establishment several times but violations of the regulations happen every day across the region and no one so far has been charged. An Awene source says that some 50 Peshmerga were obliged to swear together that they will vote for KDP candidates; while they have yet to receive their salaries for the last 50 days.
