A terroristic plot thwarted en route Slemani-Kirkuk Witebej Yesterday evening, 9 March, the counter-terror forces and The Slemani security forces (Asaish) repelled a terroristic plan. The commander of the counter-terror forces Polat Sheik Jangi announced “after conducting a military operation which was carried out in the village of Bashir in Taza sub-district at dawn, March 3, the counter-terror forces were received news that the terrorists have a vehicle laden with explosives with themselves, thus the counter-terror force changed their direction at the time of their return and warned the Slemani Security teams for diffusing bombs. In the meantime, the Security General Director in Slemani the Major General Hassan indicated that the terrorists were supposed to bring the vehicle in Slemani, which consisted of 500 kg TNT, we hindered them at near Kirkuk checkpoint and two people have been arrested in the car, two employees within the Security forces were martyred at the time of diffusing the bombs.” http://witebej.com/En/News.aspx?id=12349&MapID=29 |
| Russian Girenak Joseph, who visited Kirkuk in Kurdistan as a part of his tour throu the 1870 - 1873 AD, who published the results of his trip & his studies later in 1879, in the 4th volume in the Bulletin of the Caucasus department of the Royal Geographical Russian Society estimated Kirkuk's population as many as 12-50,000 people, & he emphasized that except 40 Christian families, the rest of the population were Kurds.
