Indeed. The unification process unfortunately took a turn for the worse from late 2012 on. Budget issues significantly slowed the process, and when Gorran got the MOP post, PUK completely halted the unification. However, I have great trust in the recent commitment to KRG, compared to previous years, by the US and Europe. If it wasn't for our own economic difficulties right now, I'm sure the combination of western (in particular the US, which have had great interest in the Kurdish institutions) and KRG funds/commitment would drastically change the security establishment in the near future. The economic situation will probably prolong it, but if the western commitment to KRG continues (and public opinion in KRG have drastically changed after the august 2014 setbacks regarding party units) the reforms will eventually be forced through. This time they seem to be serious about reforms as well. RIP, our two fallen heroes ![]() |
