Hello everyone, according to the german news-outlet n-tv, the Peshmerga have presented a report on the missing/sold weapons from the weapon donations from Germany. http://www.n-tv.de/politik/Deutsche-Waffen-im-Irak-verschwunden-article17174246.html A rough translation would be about as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, 08th of March 2016 Peshmerga deliver report German weapons missing in the KRG The weapon deliveries to the Peshmerga of the KRG have been a controversial topic from the start. Critics now feel confirmed: Dozens of weapons were lost in the past years. But this is only a small percentage. The kurdish army in the KRG has lost about 88 of roughly 28000 firearms delivered by the german military in the past one-and-a-half years. That follows from a report of the kurdish government to the german government, about which the parliament has been informed. ![]() Kurdisch officers are trained by the german military for the fight against the socalled 'islamic state', like here in Münster.(Foto: dpa) More than half of these lost pistols, assault- and machine guns were lost in combat against the terror-militia 'islamic state', as the german press-agency had learned. How many of these were captured by the IS-terrorists is unclear. 17 weapons have evidently been sold or exchanged. The fate of 16 additional firearms is still unclear. Ten Peshmerga have been arrested for selling their weapons. More suspects have fled to Europe. The investigations are ongoing. The Federal Government sees, despite the losses, - they amount to just 0,3 percent of the roughly 28000 delivered firearms - no reason to stop the weapon deliveres to the kurds. "There are no indications of systematic abuse of the deliveries", is the word from government circles. Anti-tank missles to be delivered The Federal Government had begun in September 2014, to deliver weapons to the kurds in their fight against the IS-terrorists, among them 20000 rifles of the types G3 and G36, 8000 P1-pistols, 508 machine guns, but also 1000 ATGMs, 500 Panzerfaust-launchers and 20000 hand grenades. Altogether, the deliveries thus far included 1800 tons of weapons and equipment. In January, weapons with the identifier "Bw" for "Bundeswehr" turned up on markets in the KRG. Based on that, the Federal Government demanded an investigation from the government of the KRG. The next weapon-delivery is scheduled for the second quarter. Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen had promised the kurds 200 ATMGs type MILAN, 4000 G36 assault rifles, six million rounds and five armored vehicles of the type Dingo. The Peshmerga have great interest in the MILAN-missles, because they can take out rolling bombs - vehicles loaded with explosives. Critics of the military support for the kurds had warned early on, that the weapons could fall into the wrong hands. They see their fears confirmed. "I have, in contrast to the Federal Government, great doubts about the preciseness of the data about the msising weapons", says Leftist-defense-expert Alexander Neu. "The Federal Government obviously wants to continue this arming-project and wants to trivialize the problems of end-use as isolated incidents." Source: n-tv.de , mli/dpa
