Did you guys know that the Turkish people were known as ''Gele Rom'' and that someone who spoke Turkish was not called a Turk but a ''Romî'' up until the 60's? Turkish was called called '' Zimane Romiyan'' ( Language of the Roms). Only after the massive Turkification of Kurds, Kurds were prown to call ethnic Turks as Turks ant not Romî.

Here is a video of the Kocgiri Rebellion where the singer sings

'' Romiyan em kushtinen, kiri ne chi halan''
( The Roms/Turks killed us and made our situation terrible)

But does anyone know why?

That's what I want to know. All I know is that Romi means Turk in Kurmanci. Only recently Kurds are beginning to actually call Turks as Tirk.

i can say you why, because romi stands for poeple from ancient rome, because Byzantine Empire was the heir of ancient rome and most turks are just assimilated people from Byzantine,

turks are a fake nation and were made up by ataturk, before the foundation of turkey turks were a little minority

Grandma of my father called the Turks 'Roma Resh'. = the black (evil) Romans

Romans = maybe different name for occupiers/invaders.

I believe it could be a reference to the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum. The Rum Seljuk Turks were called so because "it had been established on territory long considered "Roman", i.e. Byzantine, by Muslim armies."

"Byzantine" is a modern term, they were always known during those times as Roman.

Danishmendids appear to be Kurds judging from the names of the leaders and geographical position.

A poem by my great x4 grandfather:

Hewran kirde gaĺe gaĺ
Mikael ‘etoş dey
Tutn u maşan brşêne
Deba noş bête ser dey
Romi ‘ewa peya bun
Kutubxanan deken tey

The last two lines say 'Romis have dismounted here and destroyed libraries'
